COVID-19 Updates

March 13, 2020

Updates will be posted on this page.

At the Canadian Mental Health Association, Elgin branch, the health and safety of our participants, staff, volunteers, and community is very important. At this time, we will not be suspending services in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, we continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to act as required.

We are recommending everyone to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines produced by The World Health Organization, Health Canada, Ontario Health, and local health units.

If you have recently travelled and are experiencing

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Difficulty breathing

You should self-isolate contact your local health unit for further instruction.

It is recommended that all who have travelled monitor their symptoms and avoid large crowds for 14 days. For those who have travelled to higher risk destinations, such as Italy, Iran, or Hubei Province (China), you should contact your local health unit upon return to Canada and regardless of symptoms, self-isolate for 14 days.

How can you protect yourself and your family?

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water often, for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with your sleeve; or cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, then throw the tissue in the garbage.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch objects and surfaces frequently.
